Get to know the Vagabond

Fresh off the release of two mixtapes, Vagabond, and Kimberley – The Short Tape, Jae Sterling is a rapper, singer, and song writer who’s known for his lush vocals and mature lyricism. His visionary sound brings an expressive and honest edge, which help build a solid foundation in Calgary’s growing hip-hop scene.  Through his early years in Kingston, Jamaica to the landscapes of North America, Jae has spent the past few years developing his artistry by weaving his experiences in Jamaica, South Florida and Canada into his projects. 

On stage, Jae Sterling is known to command his audience through a sound that fuses heavy booming trap and alternative hiphop. His original foray into Calgary’s music scene was through the award winning electronic indie band CitySleep. Experimenting with performance, production and song writing through CitySleep Jae cultivated a strong creative edge which has influenced his direction in creating hiphop as a solo artist. In releasing his first mixtape, Vagabond, and performing throughout Calgary and Western Canada, Jae has gained a strong following of fans from a variety of musical backgrounds.

As a solo artist his goal is to collaborate with artists while building a strong hiphop community in Calgary. Recently, Jae Sterling was one of the founders of ThotPolice, an artist collective and music development organization to help artists cultivate their craft and identity through hiphop. With his third release this year, Jaguar, Jae Sterling intends to establish himself as a mainstay in Canadian rap.
